The managing pair behind S&J Butchers in Easingwold have been hard at work fundraising for a cause very close to them. Jodie shares their story with us…
“A month ago my family lost a friend and the future mothering- law to my son, Carol Powlton, then a week later, we lost my stepdad/ children’s grandad, Alan Newbury.
The month had been considerably hard before all of this, so in my emotional state I wanted to do something to make a difference to other people, and with 'Turn Easingwold Pink Week' it seemed a good time to combine the two.
So on Saturday 27th of September I put it to Darren....how about we run 5k on a morning before work at 5am, then do our 10 hour day (on our feet mind!) then run another 5k at 5pm? This would total 50k...
He slightly reluctantly agreed to my crazy plan, however, anyone who knows me, knows that behind the loving smile that I have at work to all my customers, I’m a little bit cheeky!
Ok Darren, we actually work 6 days, so let’s do the 6 days?? So now totalling 6k...
We agreed and set to on Monday morning.... The week was tough, legs were tiring, I was feeling poorly at one point, but I’d set us a challenge and here at S & J butchers, Easingwold we aim to deliver on our word! The week’s weather got progressively worse, with that storm on Thursday... But in true style, we donned our trainers and fought the wind, rain and what felt like hail stones!
Each day achieving 6 or 7k instead of the 5k we planned...
Our last 6k brought us into the marketplace at approximately 3pm, greeted by my loving family. But again, me being me, we wanted to end on a high, and as I was meant to compete in a military skills competition, we ran our last stretch in boots and carrying 15kg.”
